Founded in November,1999 by Dr's. Yaakov Shevy and Amnon Yariv, Orbits Lightwave, Inc. (OLI) is a privately held, innovative supplier of ultra-stable, low noise fiber lasers located in Pasadena, CA. OLI has a rich portfolio of intellectual property that includes technology licensed from nearby California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) as well as a number of its own patents issued and pending.
This novel packaging technology greatly reduces susceptibility to shock and vibration. It enables our laser to demonstrate unprecedented levels of stability and reliability under demanding industrial or military environments. The fiber laser is also housed in an athermal packaging, that minimizes the frequency drift with respect to temperature, without the need for energy consuming temperature control. It also enables unprecedented frequency stability. The laser package is hermetically sealed to remove any humidity effects. Long term frequency data logged from our standard fiber laser design operating in our lab has shown <100MHz drift over a 2 year time period!.

Orbits’s flagship product line is the Ethernal™ family of fiber lasers. Ethernal lasers operate in the eye-safe telecommunications C-band wavelength range (1530-1565nm) and are soon available between 1030-1060nm. Based on a novel and patented “virtual ring” laser architecture, Ethernal fiber lasers offer state of the art S/N and side-mode suppression, shot-noise limited RIN, narrow (<200Hz) line-width, with excellent frequency stability. Orbits' high laser performance is achieved using our SlowLight™ technology and has pushed the limits of fiber laser performance to new heights. This rich combination of product technology and intellectual property provides a powerful platform for engineers and system developers working on next generation applications. Examples of applications that are enabled by the combination of high stability, low noise and narrow linewidth found in Ethernal lasers include sensing, coherent LIDAR and coherent communications. In addition, Ethernal’s small size and low mass are proving to be enabling factors for critical space and military deployment applications.

We manufacture all our lasers in house with no external contractor involvement. We have created clean room facilities and ESD safe areas to ensure the quality and reliability of our product. .
